Christine "Chrissy" Virgin Acevedo, 69, of West Valley City, Utah, returned to her Heavenly Father on April 16, 2025, in Midvale, Utah.
Christine was born on May 18, 1955 in Rigby, Idaho to Nephi Virl Virgin and Virginia Knapp Larsen Virgin. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1973. She later moved to Utah, married Steven Paul Acevedo, and had four children. After the passing of her youngest daughter, Abriel Miracle-a preemie baby that lived for four years-Christine dedicated her life to service. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and received her endowments on July 25, 2001, the day that would have been her daughter's fifth birthday.
After years of focusing on being a mother, she made the decision to pursue a higher education. She earned two associate degrees at Salt Lake Community College, then a bachelor's degree and a Master of Arts degree in Special Education with Severe Endorsement from the University of Phoenix-all while raising her children and working full time. While going to school, she worked as a paraprofessional at Whittier Elementary, then became a teaching assistant and substitute teacher for the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind. After completing her education, she transitioned to a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI).
Christine would most want to be remembered for her love of service and the betterment of any community she was involved in. Her favorite stories were from her experiences in New Orleans helping to build houses post-Hurricane Katrina with Habitat for Humanity, or her many experiences guiding her students to success. She was a talented artist, painter, and an excellent cook. She loved being a pillar of her family and getting involved with her children's interests and hobbies, such as watching movies together. She loved the sitcom Friends, listening to Michael Jackson and Neil Diamond, and could often be found at home watching ghost-hunting shows or laughing along to romantic comedies. She was a paragon of altruism, resilience, and proof that the cornerstones of a life well lived are showing up and being kind.
Christine is survived by her eldest daughter Anna Mariah Acevedo (John Bishop), eldest son Christopher Steven Acevedo, youngest son Marcus Paul Acevedo, brother Richard Virgin (Jennifer), sister Janice Johnson (Gary), brother Roger Virgin (Valauna), sister Virlene Meifu, sister Lisa Virgin, sister Catherine Seeley (Kevin), sister-in-law Marilyn, and a bountiful lineage of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of people who loved her and were inspired by her. She is preceded in death by her youngest daughter Abriel Miracle, her parents Nephi Virl and Virginia, sister Sherril Weekes, brother Dennis Virgin, and brother-in-law Martin Meifu.
A viewing will be held at 3:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Services will take place at the Steeple Chase Ward, located at 1750 E Aintree Ave, Draper, UT 84020. Zoom services will be provided for out-of-state loved ones. I am so sorry to hear this. She was a cousin I always looked up to when I was little. My love goes to the Virgin family and her family also. May you find comfort in good memories.
