Carol Costello passed away peacefully at Aegis Living Kirkland Waterfront on September 16, 2024. She was 78 years old. She was born and raised in the Seattle area with parents Woodruff Fay and Della Marjorie Axelson and her only sibling, her brother Douglas Axelson. She attended West Queen Anne and graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle in 1964.
She attended the University of Washington for one year until she was hired by King County Medical in 1965. King County Medical ultimately became Regents Blue Cross Blue Shield where she worked for over 40 years. Carol retired in after approximately 40 years and at that time she had worked her way up within the company to an executive position managing three areas of the business including individual/family, micro groups and the medical_care business
Carol married the love of her life Leo Costello in 1970 and they were married for 54 years until the time of his death in 2016. They moved from Seattle to Kirkland in 1975. While they had no children, they had eight nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews and 3 great great nieces with three more due later this year. Carol was a devoted aunt who remained very close to her nieces and nephews throughout their lives. Family was extremely important to Carol, and she was greatly loved by her family members.
Carol remained very involved in several Catholic organizations including being members of the Serra Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. They both did volunteer work for several Catholic charities.
Carol was preceded in death by her father Woodruff and mother Della. She was survived by her brother Douglas (Michele), her sister-in-law Mary Jo Costello, and 26 nieces and nephews.
Carol's funeral mass will be held at St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church in Kirkland at 9 am on Friday September 27, 2027, with a reception to follow. A private family burial at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle later that afternoon.
