Bruce Adams Obituary

Adams, Dr. Bruce E. age 77, of Golden Valley MN, died October 26, 2021 with wife Carla and children Robert and Megan at his side. Bruce was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son; a genuine and faithful friend; and a calm, reassuring presence to thousands of patients and colleagues. He loved to travel with Carla; fish and hunt with his son, brother, and dear friends; talk books with his daughter, nephew, and book club. He enjoyed his poker, golf, and cribbage friends; attending live music concerts and theater; and following the ups and downs of the Twins, Vikings, and Wild. Bruce graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, served in the Navy, and earned a BA and an MD from the University of Minnesota. He married the love of his life, Carla Grant, and together they built a family and a geodesic dome. He practiced family medicine in Aitkin, MN for 11 years and while there received a Bush Foundation Fellowship to develop a rural first responder program. He was an emergency physician and administrator at North Memorial Medical Center until his retirement in 2004. He served on the board of the Fremont Clinic (Neighborhood HealthSource) and volunteered at the Saint Vincent de Paul Outreach Ministries at the Basilica of St. Mary. Preceded in death by parents Marvin and Celeste "Peg" Adams, father-in-law Norman Grant, Sr., and nephew Grant Johnson. Survived by Carla, his loving wife of 55 years, son Robert (Dawn Gilpin) Adams, daughter Megan (Amy) Brooks, granddaughter Celeste Adams, brother Jim (Debbie) Adams, sister Janet (Dana) Engebretson, mother-in-law Margaret Grant, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many wonderful friends. A funeral Mass in celebration of Bruce's life will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11am, with visitation starting at 10am; full details and livestream at mary.org. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a reception at the Woman's Club of Minneapolis, 410 Oak Grove St, Minneapolis MN. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Bruce's immediate family requests that all attendees wear masks and forgo hugs and handshakes.
