Carl P. Hammond, 61, of Groton, passed away at home on November 25, 2024 after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born on October 1, 1963 in Cortland, a son of James and Barbara (Preston) Hammond of Groton, who survive him. Carl was a graduate of Groton Central School, Class of 1982, and served an apprenticeship thereafter with Micky Roof Jewelers (the Jewelbox) in Ithaca.
A Master Goldsmith, Carl worked for many years with Associated Watch & Jewelry in Tampa, FL before returning to the Groton area. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nora (Grant) Hammond; his siblings: Annette Hammond, Ray Hammond, Bonnie Marshall (Mickey), Jeff Hammond (Sheri), Neil Hammond (Jennifer), and Lynn Devo (Dan); several nieces and nephews; his canine companion, Currie; and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 1 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton. Friends may call from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home, preceding the service. Interment will be at a later time in Groton Rural Cemetery.

My condolences to Carls family. We were good friends back in jr high, 6th-7th grade. One thing that comes to mind is we used to take our skateboards up Tibkes hill and ride them down, we´d be flying & no one ever fell off. In hindsight, or as a parent, what a foolish thing to do, but boys will be boys! Then in `77 I moved to TX and lost touch
