It is with broken hearts that we announce our beloved mother, Barbara A. Lindsey, age 77, of Delaware City, DE, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, after a valiant battle with adenocarcinoma.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on July 20, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Marion C. (Gott) Walter. Barbara grew up in New Castle as part of a tight-knit family where the importance of loyalty, love, and supporting others was instilled in her. At age 10, she moved with her devoted mother and step-father to Delaware City where she later met and married the love of her life, Richard.

Barbara was blessed with a fierce intelligence that remained with her until the end. She was proud to have earned a scholarship to Padua Academy and was the person family and friends consulted when making decisions or talking through problems. Barbara was also a very spiritual person who had a life-long passion to explore and expand her faith. She was so many things to so many: a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend; a talented dancer (the jitterbug was her favorite); a nature lover (some of her best times were spent in the mountains of central PA). Barbara was frugal in her own life but generous in the lives of others, opinionated, sometimes misunderstood but always well-intentioned. What may describe her best is that she was a skilled and loving gardener. Barbara's beautiful garden was a source of great pride for her and she was happiest when tending to it. Her attention and care wasn't limited to botanicals but was extended to the animals and all of the humans in her life. She pruned and nourished all in equal measure to cultivate the best health, potential, and beauty in each. Barbara will be forever remembered, appreciated, and loved for these qualities and so much more.

Barbara is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband, Richard D. Lindsey; daughter, Rose Marie Gott; mother and step-father, Marion C. and George H. Walter; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who went before her. Left to cherish her memory are her son, A. Stephen Gott (Kim); daughter, Erica Lindsey; sister, Elissa M. Souder (Ronnie); and family, friends, and neighbors who loved her.

All services will be held privately.

If you are moved to do so, you may make a contribution in Barbara's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516; two of the organizations among many that she supported.
