Margot Abbott Obituary

Margot Clarine (Brown) Abbott, 86, of Keene, wife of William S. Abbott, died Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Covenant Living of Keene. She was born in Framingham, MA in 1938, the daughter of Clarine (Reeve) and Everett Brown. She attended grade school in Hopkinton, MA and high school in Winchendon, MA, and graduated from Boston University with an Associate Degree. She was employed as a medical secretary in the Boston offices of John G. Downing, MD, and David W. Folan, MD. She lived in Tewksbury, MA, where she was active in church and civic affairs until moving to Keene, NH with her family in 1974. Family was most important to Margot. She spent family vacations with Bill and their boys at the lake in the summer and skiing in the winter and spent holidays with the Brown and Abbott families. We have many fond memories of Brown family cookouts in the summer, and Abbott family trips to Cape Cod. Margot was a member of the United Church of Christ in Keene, where she served on the church council and was active in Women's Fellowship; she chaired the Church Fair twice and had been assistant church clerk for many years. She served on the Board of Directors of The Woodward Home for 16 years, acting as Secretary and for two of those years as Chairman. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William S. Abbott, two sons: William C. Abbott and his wife Liliana of Rehoboth, MA, and Kenneth D. Abbott and his partner Erica Warzybok of Fitzwilliam, NH, four grandchildren: Jason Abbott of Auburn, IN, Christopher Abbott and his wife Kelli-Ann of Swanzey, NH, Brian Abbott and his wife Melanie of Franklin, MA, and Haley (Abbott) Gmitter and her husband Chris of Cranston, RI, and five great-grandchildren: Caleb Abbott of Fort Wayne, IN, Sienna and Sam Abbott of Auburn, IN, and Callen and Grayson Abbott of Swanzey, MA. She also leaves a sister, Marie Samuel of Grafton, WI, and Sister-in-law Terry Sanborn of Templeton, MA. Burial will be private and will be at Riverside Cemetery in Winchendon, MA. A service of remembrance in the Sanctuary of the United Church of Christ in Keene will be held at a later date, with a collation served on the second floor of the church after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the United Church of Christ in Keene, or to Kurn Hatten Homes in Westminster, VT.

Deepest sympathy to Bill and family for your loss of Margot.
She was so kind and thoughtful and caring. A true lady. My grandmother Edie absolutely loved Margot, as did my family. I know that many people will miss her generosity and gentle voice.
