Dawn Randall Obituary

Dawn Vickery Weathersby Randall was born when Calvin Coolidge was president. Dawn's father was from Mississippi and during his life was a jockey and worked for Bethlehem Steel. Her mother immigrated with her family from Randell Cove in Newfoundland to Quincy, MA. Dawn graduated from Mass College of Art, and she met her husband, Robert Randall, at Trinity Church in Boston during a Christmas pageant. Dawn and Robert enjoyed traveling, taking many trips to Italy, France, and Scandinavia. Most recently, Dawn lived in Harrisville NH, next to the Weber family. Her father said that she would be an artist and that is what she became – painting right up to her final days. Her artwork can be found in the US and Europe, and it conveyed many stories of her life experiences. Her grandniece relayed that Dawn told her you don't paint what you see – you paint the impression you feel. She was in a poetry writing group for over 30 years in the Boston area and her last poem was written a week before she died. Her poet's eye always inspired her art, which then in turn strongly influenced her use of words. Dawn was devoted to children, teaching in Boston and Framingham public schools. She mentored many children who lacked love and financial resources, and she inspired them to see beauty in the world. Dawn lived by her principles. Both she and Robert were active in the Civil Rights movement. More recently Dawn participated in the women's march. She loved the water and was a lifelong swimmer – swimming across Harrisville Pond at 85 years. Dawn was a small but very strong woman. Dawn is predeceased by her tall husband, Robert Randall, and daughter Leslie Randall. She is survived by her daughters Vickery Trinkaus-Randall of Stow, MA, Helen Gregory and husband John of Lakeville, MA, and Alison Weber and husband Steve of Harrisville, NH. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Trinkaus-Randall and husband Peter of Fort Collins, CO, Christopher Trinkaus-Randall and wife Colleen of Westford MA, Sarah Gregory of Weaverville, NC, Anne Gregory of Washington, DC, and Randall Weber of Harrisville, NH. They were all very important to her and her to them. She also leaves her great-grandson Cameron Trinkaus, for whom she waited a long time. She leaves her 15th cat, Kitty, and has had more lives than all her cats combined. A memorial service will be held late spring in NH. To honor Dawn's life, take action to protect democracy, women's rights, help a neighbor in need, or make a donation to your favorite local public television or radio station. Dawn was a longtime supporter of public broadcasting. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home, Chapel, and Crematories. www.cheshirefamilyfh.com.

Dawns quiet strength and wonderful talents helped us bring home one of her lovely pieces from the Monadnock Art Tour last year. Her daughter helped broker the sale while Dawn shared the story of the cellist who came to play each week. Her heartfelt work adorns our sitting room, bringing smiles and music every day.

Beautiful obituary, Alison and Family. I barely knew Dawn, but I always enjoyed chance meetings and being touched by her warm, seeming omni-present smile.
I was also inspired by her art and creative musings, along with her swimming into her late years. She was a fellow "Mermaid!" I treasure her memory and wish all the family love and happy memories of wonderful Dawn.
