Resident of Willow Glen, San Jose
Anne Marie Thatcher (Ocean Annie) passed away peacefully January 24, 2022 at 93 years. Anne grew up in Garden Grove, California with her brother Irv Slater.
While attending UCLA, she met the love of her life, Jim Thatcher (Old Deep River) on a blind date at a UCLA/Cal Berkeley Homecoming Football game. Go Bears! Married for 50 years, they lived in Berkeley, San Francisco, San Mateo and eventually settling in Willow Glen, San Jose in the cool new Eichler homes neighborhood to raise 5 kids.
Anne truly represented the "Greatest Generation". A positive, happy, grateful woman and wonderful mother to her children and neighborhood mom to many of our best friends. Her amazing creative spirit was constant and widely shared. Creating her own column in "Let's Go" magazine as "Anne's Art of Living" suggesting the amazing family adventures the Bay Area has to offer. The beach, clam digging, backpacking, painting, watching nature, baseball, exploring San Francisco with her five kids, helping dad with sand castles……this was mom. She lived it. She wanted to share it.
She was a key volunteer with other neighbors at the infamous Fairglen Art Festival. It featured talented artists and attracted thousands of attendees every year to Fairwood Avenue for over 30 years. A love for Art and books we carry with us. She also loved attending the Stone Church of Willow Glen where she connected with many friends and the community.
Her professional life ranged from working at the elegant I. Magnin retail store in San Francisco to bookkeeper for the San Jose Swim and Racquet Club, followed by head bookkeeper for Ingala's Interiors. Most co-workers naturally became friends.
Anne's constant loving smile and infectious laugh will be missed by her 5 children – Jeff Thatcher of Vista, Steven Thatcher of San Jose, Kevin Thatcher of San Jose, Becky Thatcher Toews of Woodside, Jennifer Thatcher Firth of Santa Cruz, her amazing 7 grandkids, and 3 great grandkids.
