Virginia Hill Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Hill (nee Brogan) passed away suddenly on January 19, 2024, after a very brief illness. Born in the Bronx, NY, on September 25, 1941, she was the oldest of 6 children born to the late Andrew and Virginia Brogan. On May 26, 1962, she married the love of her life, Charles "Chip" Hill, and they remained a loving and devoted couple for 61 years until his passing on January 21, 2024. Their union set in motion a family of 8 children, that has multiplied in number and enormous love. While raising her family, Ginny practiced her devotion to Christianity in her daily life. She worked at the Catholic food pantry and took so many in need under her wing through the years. She was a Eucharistic Minister and brought Communion to the residents of local nursing homes, and extended visits to those patients who did not have family. For over 20 years, she was committed to visits to the Blessed Sacrament, and while that devotion brought her through the trials and tribulations she faced in her life, she always focused on helping and praying for others. Ginny worked at the Public Library for several years, but her true passion was championing others and she personified the phrase, "You can't keep it unless you give it away," as she freely shared her life experiences, wisdom and love with all she knew. She faced both joys and sorrows throughout her life with equal grace and humility. She was a dedicated and loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend, and she never failed to check in on all, but in the "good old fashioned way," by phone or postal service; because while she never stopped growing as an amazing human being, she consciously avoided growing in the area of modern technology. Ginny had a great sense of humor and a certain penchant for assigning silly nicknames to those she loved. Her sense of humor, along with her attitude of always feeling blessed no matter what she faced in life were her strongholds and helped not only her, but helped her to help others. Ginny's most remarkable attribute was her selflessness, she wholeheartedly cared for her family and beyond, including childhood friends that remain from her days in the Bronx. While we will miss her every day of our lives, we are grateful for all the sacrifice, time and love that she bestowed on us. Today our hearts are broken, and in time our hearts will mend; but they will never beat the same without her. Ginny is survived by her children: Michael (Krissy); Billy (Donna); John (Maria); Maryellen (Matthew); Chris (Linda); Jennifer (Kevin); Patrick (Emily); and daughter-in-law, Amy Hill. She was the cherished grandmother of Christina, Nancy, Christopher, Kathleen, Madeline, Joseph, Leigha, Kevin, Christian, Grace, Lauren, Danny, Patrick, Annie, Julia, Sophia, Mackenzie, Michael, Matthew and Kira, and proud great-grandmother of Ava, Natalia, Olivia and Lucas. She is also survived by her brothers, Andrew (Jane) and John (Arlene); sister Patricia (Michael); sisters-in law Lorraine (Richie) and Monica (Billy); and loving nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. She is predeceased by her infant daughter Mary, parents, beloved Chip, and her sisters Karen Nohilly and Rosemary Sullivan. Reposing at Thomas A Glynn & Son Funeral Home 20 Lincoln Avenue Rockville Centre, NY, Thursday, 1/23/24 from 2-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre, NY, 1/24/24 at 9:45 am. Interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Old Westbury, NY.

I´ve known Ginny for 77 years. We were in the same grade for 8 years at St Benedict´s Grammar School. We then attended St Helena´s HS for 4 years. Ginny married my cousin Chip. "The Perfect Couple ". I have many friends in Throggs Neck who knew and loved Ginny. She had nothing but love in her heart that gravitated to everyone who knew her. She will be missed more than anyone I have ever known.
