I met John in 1967 when I was transferred into HMM161. I only today learned of his death. He was a friend and was respected by all who served with him. I will miss him.

I served with John in HMM161 here in the states and in Viet Nam. John was an exceptional crew chief, I flew as one of his door gunners many times. It was great to see him in 1988 at that first reunion and many more after that. It is with great sadness to learn of Johns passing.

John and I met at the Marine Corps Air Facility in New River North Carolina in 1966 where we both were assigned to HMM-161. We worked and trained together, crossed the USA together in CH-46D helicopters on our way to Vietnam, and flew combat missions together in Quang Tri. We also shared the same birth date, which we discovered during our time together in the Marines. It has been our custom for decades to contact each other and wish each other a Happy Birthday, along with a third member of our little triad, Norm LaFountaine. That this custom has now ended is in fact heart wrenching and the sense of loss that goes with it is vast and deep. He was a terrific Marine and well liked and respected by all who knew him. He was my friend and my brother-in-arms. He will be missed. Semper Fi!

I will miss you, I´ll miss our talks at night and miss that laugh. I know you are happy being with Anita now. You have said many times that getting old is hell so now you don´t have to worry about that. We had some good times when we where growing up with all the other cousins. Love you always.
