John Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2025.

John Gordon Adams, 80, of Indialantic, Florida, passed away on November 11, 2024, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida. Born in Radford, Virginia, John spent his formative years in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from George Wythe High School in Richmond and later attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. In the mid-1970s, he made his way to Florida, where he built a life filled with creativity and adventure.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lucien Doyle Adams and Eleanor "Tommy" Adams. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Susan Robbert Adams; two sons, John G. Adams Jr. and his wife Lynn, and Carter R. Adams; his daughter Emma C. Murphy and her husband Justin; two cherished granddaughters, Remi J. Murphy and Millie F. Murphy; and two sisters, Anne Adams Cuttino, and Sally Adams Duerr and her husband Finn.

A man of many talents and passions, John was a poet and playwright whose words captured the beauty of life. He expressed himself through photography and painting, creating works that reflected his unique perspective on the world around him. An adventurer at heart, John embraced life's wonders as a scuba diver exploring underwater realms and a fossil hunter uncovering ancient treasures. He found joy riding waves as a surfer and solace in nature as a mountain man. His love for travel took him to many places where he sought inspiration and adventure.

John's legacy is one of creativity, exploration, and deep love for his family. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him most.

John and I were friends since middle school. Many wonderful, lasting memories will keep John close to my heart forever. One of the most humorous events was the day he jumped out of a first floor school window at old John Marshall High school in Richmond, Virginia. The teacher said, "Where is John. Did he just jump out of the window?'" Apparently, John wanted to be the first on the school bus. The entire class was in hysterics. It was all we could do to avoid falling on the floor laughing.
Yes, John was a unique person whom I will miss forever. I am thankful that we were able to rekindle our friendship in our latter years. My sincere condolences to John's wonderful family.

John was one of my most interesting relatives, the sharing of his discoveries of our family history is something I will always remember. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
