MARCIA COHEN Obituary

COHEN MARCIA R. 94, died on December 24, 2021 in Manhattan. The cause was heart failure. She was born in the Bronx to Irving and Edna Rosen on August 10, 1927. She received a bachelor's degree, alongside her future husband Elias, from the University of Wisconsin where she studied Spanish and Portuguese. She received her master's degree in social work from Bryn Mawr College and graduated from the Barnes Institute's three-year Horticultural Certificate Program. She lived in Wynnewood amidst an acre of gardens for 50 years. She is preceded in death by Elias, who died in 2020 and to whom she was married 73 years. Elias Cohen was Pennsylvania's first Commissioner on Aging. She is survived by her sons Peter (Mary Louise) and Barry (Joyce), brother Arthur (Suzanne) and grandchildren Claire (Ian), Andrew (Alicia), Seth (Samantha) and Joy. At the time of her death, Marcia was believed to be the oldest living recipient of a liver transplant in the world. She was part of a study to determine whether rapamycin, an immunosuppressant she took, promoted longevity.
