John Palleria Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce that John Palleria, 91, peacefully passed away July 16th, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife of 61 years and his devoted family. Born on May 11, 1934, in Blackfoot Idaho. John was the cherished son of Elisabetta Maria Panzarella Palleria and Giovonni "John" Batptise Palleria both from Curinga Italy.

Growing up on a farm, John worked alongside his father from the time he could walk, following him through the fields and learning the value of hard work and dedication. His childhood was spent helping to provide for his family, which included his three sisters: Mary, Jenny, and Betty.

John graduated from Firth High School in 1953 where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. Upon graduating, he set his sights on Idaho State College (now Idaho State University), where he earned certifications in carpentry and mechanics. Ever resourceful, John launched a cleaning business to fund his way through college, recruiting two friends along the way (he clearly understood the magic of teamwork-and not cleaning alone).

Not content with just dusting and fixing things, John also taught himself how to play the guitar. His musical talents soon led him to form a band with his entrepreneurial buddies. Their name? The Three Stooges-a title inspired by their undeniable knack for both melody and mischief. By day, they polished floors; by night, they polished their act.

He served with distinction in the Army National Guard's 116th Cavalry Battalion, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class, E-6, over nine years of service.

After graduating, John worked as the parts manager for Hills Brothers Buick in Pocatello for several years. But his entrepreneurial passion soon led him to open his own business-John's American-a popular gas station and repair shop. Later, he joined Bucyrus-Erie (B.E.), and when the company relocated out of Pocatello, John's independent nature drew him back to self-employment, repairing heavy equipment for local industrial companies.

In 1964, John married the love of his life, Barbara McMahon. Together, they shared 61 wonderful years brimming with laughter, adventure, and cherished moments-camping under starlit skies, fishing, snowmobiling through winter wonderlands, cruising on motorcycles through the Idaho mountains, and dancing the night away at lively square dances. Their hearts and home overflowed with love, and it was shared with their three beloved children: John, Kristi, and Stephanie.

A true craftsman, John excelled in everything he put his hands to. He was a master woodworker, painter, gardener and mechanic. He was respected for his intelligence, humility, and quiet strength. He took great pride in sharing his skills and wisdom with his family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters Betty, Jenny, and Mary, and an infant sister. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara, his son John Palleria, and daughters Kristi (John) Mattulat and Stephanie Rohrdanz. He leaves behind grandsons Joshua Auck, Aaron Rohrdanz, Matthew Rohrdanz, Noah (Haley) Rohrdanz, great-granddaughter Harper Rohrdanz, as well as Kimberly Freeman and Kent Bradshaw. John also had many extended grandchildren whom he deeply loved and cared for.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a kind and gentle man. Above all, John's legacy is one of devotion-to his family, his work, and the values he held dear. He will be remembered always for his steady hands, generous heart, and the love he so freely gave to those around him.

A Tribute to John Palleria
A gentle soul who touched our lives with quiet strength and deep kindness.

When I think of my brother-in-law John Palleria, I think of a man who was humble, reserved, and deeply caring. He and my sister Barbara shared 61 beautiful years of marriage, a true testament to love and commitment.

Though John was quiet by nature, he had a gift for observation and a remarkable way of anticipating the needs of others. He was easy to talk to and an exceptional listener, someone you felt comfortable with right away.

John and Barbara had a shared passion for square dancing and could dance the night away with joy and energy. One of the highlights of our family reunions was when they would arrange for a square dance instructor. Young and old alike joined in the fun, and those moments brought so much laughter and togetherness.

Another memorable part of our reunions was when John brought out his hand-carved wooden puzzles and animals. His creations were both beautiful and challenging, and we all looked forward to seeing what new masterpiece he had crafted. John truly was a master woodworker; his artistry brought delight to our family and left a legacy of creativity. He was a true artist.

Last year, I had the blessing of spending time with Barbara and John, and I discovered a new side of John, his sense of humor, his sparkle, and his playful competitiveness. Their children, John Jr., Kristi, and Stephane, clearly inherited that same playful spirit.
We spent many days around the table, playing cards, board games, and trying to solve John´s puzzles. With a twinkle in his eye, John always kept us smiling, pretending to lose just before he won.
John will be deeply missed, but I feel truly privileged to have known him. I will always treasure the memories, the laughter, and the love he brought to our family.

His memory will forever be a treasured piece of our family´s story.

John was a remarkable man and a
friend to all of us. Lots of card games, camping trips, motorcycle rides and others. John was always tinkering and keeping everything running. He and his wife Barbara set an impressive example to their family and all of us.

He will be missed and in our thoughts. How wonderful to have the time with him we had. We love you John!
