Clarice Chicks Obituary

Janesville, WI - Clarice Marilyn Chicks passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, with her family around her. She was born in South Beloit, Illinois, on October 14, 1931, to Elmer S. and Hazel L. Albright. Clarice graduated from Beloit High School in 1949. From there, she was employed by Sharpe Portrait Studio in Beloit as a colorist for 3-1/2 years. In 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Dary, at the Second Congregational Church in Beloit. In 1953, they moved to Ontario, California, where Clarice continued working at several photography studios and commercial art agencies as a colorist. In 1963, with two young daughters, they returned to Beloit to be near family. As a hairdresser and administrator, Eugene bought Rockford Beauty Academy. After nine months, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and passed away at age 34 in August 1964. After his death, Clarice chose to operate the Beauty Academy for 7-1/2 years. In 1966, Clarice married Calvin Chicks, M.D., of Janesville, Wisconsin. Their son, Matthew, was born in 1970. Calvin predeceased Clarice on October 26, 2012. She pursued her interests in French, art and other interests at the University of Wisconsin - Rock County along with figure drawing at Madison College for 17 years. She was active in Janesville Art League and was their historian from 1989 to 2022. Through the Art League, Clarice received several honors for her watercolors, pencil drawings, colored pencil and pastel art work over the years, and her art was displayed in many exhibits. She also worked in stained glass and calligraphy. Her adventurous spirit led to several European excursions with her daughters and various destinations in the United States. Clarice loved to dance with her husband, especially ice dancing, and she played the flute and piano. She enjoyed jazz and classical music, favorites were Rampal and Tony Bennett. Clarice was devoted to her family and was always ready to lend a helping hand. She is survived by her children: Lugene Chicks of Janesville, Jennifer (Rob) Anderson of Brooklyn, WI, Matthew (Sharon) Chicks of Glendale, AZ, stepson John Chicks of San Diego, CA, granddaughter Taylor (Alex) Farrell, of Oregon, WI, and very special friend and loving companion, Eugene Weeden of Beloit, WI.
