Carolyn Stevens Obituary

Carolyn Fielder Stevens
September 27, 1939 - October 12, 2024
Carolyn "Cubby" Fielder Stevens passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on October 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Green Valley, AZ. She leaves behind her three cherished children: Bill Stevens and wife Tammi (Green Valley), Julie Alpert (Scottsdale, AZ), and Carrie Smith and husband Shad (San Anselmo, CA). She is also lovingly remembered by her eleven grandchildren: Emma, Grace, Jacob, Holly, Michael, and Zachary Stevens; Will, Sarah, and Kate Alpert; and Sayer and Sadie Smith.
Born in Washington, DC, Cubby was a spirited individual whose life was rich with experiences. She attended Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley, MA, and, at the age of 52, fulfilled her dream of earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Arizona in 1992, a milestone of which she was immensely proud. Following her graduation, she made significant contributions to the Green Valley News, where she penned the beloved "Talk of the Town" social column for many years.
In addition to her writing, Cubby enjoyed a successful career as a realtor in Green Valley and was an active member of the Santa Cruz County Cowbelles. Her vibrant spirit and quick wit made her a cherished local institution, bringing joy and laughter to all who knew her.
Cubby found immense joy in being a grandmother and traveled the world, always with a sense of adventure. She loved watching sunsets from her favorite overlook in Green Valley and cherished her early morning cups of coffee on her patio, often while snuggling with her beloved cat, Tofu. A creative soul, she delighted in crafting funny greeting cards and sharing laughter over lunches with friends. She was a devoted fan of University of Arizona football and enjoyed the daily challenge of her morning Wordle game.
Cubby had a remarkable network of loving friends and family from near and far, all of whom appreciated her unique spirit and the warmth she brought to their lives.
A service will be held on December 14 at Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, AZ at 3:30 p.m. (interment and reception following). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Santa Cruz County Cowbelles, supporting scholarships to help children in southern Arizona achieve their educational dreams in the areas of ranching and agriculture. Please mail checks to Santa Cruz County Cowbelles, C/O Lou Apperson, P.O. Box 368, Sonoita, AZ 85637.

Thinking about your mom AND Ginny AND my mom again
. Such great friendships. Always thought we´d have Cubby for many, many more years. She was one in a million - as was Ginny, and my mom.

I went to high school with "Cubby" in Rye NY. We´ve kept in contact over the years as we both shared the same birthday! My deepest sympathy to her family. I will so miss our texts every Sept 26 on our birthdays.

Cubby and I met at the dog park. We bonded over our love for our dogs. As our friendship grew we shared our stories. She was passionate about her love for her family, she loved to read and she always had a sparkle in her eyes. Every December we would go to Tucson to the annual performance of the Messiah. We both loved singing along with the choir and then when they didn't offer that option, we sang along anyway! She was a wonderful friend and she will be missed.

I knew Cubby for many years. Our paths crossed at many different time and she was always cheerful and had a funny story to share. Many times about something "dumb" she did. I will miss crossing paths with her.

To all members of Cubbie's Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I had the most wonderful time at Long when I worked with Cubby. She will be missed. Her happy nature will live on with many of us. May she rest in peace.
