To all of Rita's Family -
We Norbertines voice our praises to God daily at St. Norbert Abbey by chanting psalms. These days we direct our praises in gratitude for the life and goodness of your dear Rita. Among the lines we sing comes one from Psalm 90: "Our years are 70 or 80 if we are strong." Rita was one strong woman - I have known that for a long time. Over the years Rita has been for me a glowing example of fortitude and persistence - always with a dose of graciousness. Sorry that I could not be with you as you today laid your matriarch to her earthly rest. However, my stroke has not detained my prayers that Rita, Chris, and Mary are now alive forever with their God. May you and all who mourn be consoled with wonderful memories. Pax, Fr. Angelo

We never knew Rita, but we know her son, Steve and his wife Ruth . Because we believe children are the autograph of their parents, and knowing how nice Steve and Ruth are the world has lost a special lady. Our sympathy to you all.

So sorry to hear of Rita's passing, I had the good fortune to work with Rita at Notre Dame in the '70s. She was loved by her students and co-workers alike, we enjoyed many fun faculty parties w/Rita and Chris. Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family!

My condolences to the Wellens family. She and Mr. Wellens were our neighbors back when we lived out on Rockland road...Mrs. Wellens was also my math teacher back at St. Francis, she was a wonderful lady and will be missed by all.

Rita was one of the best parts of my early teaching years. She was such a strong woman and opened her heart and her life to someone just starting out. She and Chris were great examples of what all people should be. She will be missed.

What a beautiful woman and kind soul! She was always such a sweetheart when I took care of her, always giving out hugs and kisses at the end of the night! Much love sent to Rita, her family, and her friends!

Mrs. Wellness was my 6th grade math teacher. She was a wonderful teacher and really cared about her students. Rita and her husband also were the Eucharistic Ministers at our wedding. We are so Blessed to have had them in our lives. Lynn Michels Zettel

Couldn't help but love my Aunt Rita. Had one of the kindest and most caring hearts in the Wellens family. Using all those math skills that she taught me to this day! Heaven was very lucky today and gained a huge angel! <3 <3

Mrs. Wellens was my math teacher in grade school in the mid-70's, and I'll never forget her kindness. She would help me after school whenever I needed it, and I saw her around town for many years after, always bright, happy and positive. The heavens have indeed received a new star.

Rita was a very special person to our family. I kept in contact with Rita until a couple years ago when my health declined. I will always keep her in my prayers and heart. Agnes Dillon Williams

What a Grand Lady! She was always the picture of class and grace. Someone I admire and whose presence I will miss. A true Matriarch and an example of faith to all who knew her. Rest in peace, Miss Rita.

I remember very well meeting Rita when I was employed at Bellevue she was a very sweet lady and I do remember her playing the piano a lot which was nice to hear sorry for your loss
