Jacqueline Hartert Obituary

Hartert, Jacqueline
Jacqueline Lois Hartert, or Jackie as she preferred to be called, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023, at the age of 91 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 25, 1932, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Jack and Clara DeVries, she married Dietrich Hartert in 1956.

Jackie was a Registered Nurse, a title which she felt was not just a job description, but a calling. Later in her career she pursued a Bachelors of Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit. The last 22 years of her career were spent working with premature babies at Blodgett Hospital, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

She was the Beloved Mother of Bill (Sue) Hartert, Tim (Aimee) Hartert, Judy (Tim) Recker, and Amy (Kurt) Gunneson, as well as Grandmother to: Justine, Anna, Caleb, Philip, Alexander, John, Joey, Gabriel, and Naomi. Further, she was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Zion, and Caraway. Jackie's legacy is carried on through the cherished memories they hold.

Jackie found great solace and joy in gardening, and she had an insatiable passion for reading, and solving crossword puzzles... in ink! Jackie also enjoyed symphonies, operas, and ballet, though one of her greatest joys was being active in her grandchildren's lives by supporting and challenging them in their after-school pursuits.

She was known by friends and family as a strong but modest woman--- sometimes outspoken, but always with a keen sense of humor. Described by those who knew her as a person of faith, Jackie's spiritual life was an ongoing journey. To enhance her understanding and spiritual growth, she immersed herself in Bible study classes, engaging in reading and dialogue. Her spirit will forever remind us of the beauty of a life well-lived and the enduring power of love.

Jackie's family would like to thank the caring people at Raybrook (Devos 1) and Faith Hospice who took care of not only their mom in her final weeks but made sure the family was looked after as well.

A memorial service for Jackie will be held at Blythefield Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, December 19 at 12 PM, with one hour of visitation proceeding beginning at 11 AM. Memorial contributions in Jackie's honor can be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital..

Aunt Jackie was a beautiful soul with a big heart and a great sense of humor. I remember her wittiness the most. God put her on my heart "out of the blue" and the memories started flooding my mind.
The fun times at Uncle John and Aunt Claire's home were highlights when she and her children were staying there during the summer months.
Three days later, I hear of her passing. God's mysteries to behold.
All of you, her beloved family are in my thoughts and prayers in this grief journey. May you find comfort and peace in the days ahead.
Much love to you all!
