The family of Dr. Robert (Bob) Dillon Wilson of Redmond, OR are saddened to announce his passing on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the age of 92 years.
Robert was born on July 30, 1931 in Oklahoma City, OK to Meredith and Edyth Wilson. He lived his childhood on the family farm in Oklahoma. In his early teens, he moved to the Woodburn/Salem, OR area and graduated from North Salem High School in 1949.
In 1949 Robert attended Willamette University (Salem, OR) and graduated in May of 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Chemistry. From there he was accepted to the School of Medicine at OHSU in Portland also in 1952. He graduated in May of 1956 with a Doctor of Medicine. Robert did his internship (Internal Medicine) also at the School of Medicine at OHSU from 1956-1957. His Residency in Medicine was completed at the US Veterans Hospital in Portland, OR from 1957-1958 and at the School of Medicine at OHSU from 1958-1960. In 1962 he attended a Trainee in Allergy at the University of Wisconsin Medical School.
On July 30, 1960 Robert was called to Active Duty with the Air Force for 2 years. He served in the 806th Medical Group (SAC) at Chennault AFB, Louisiana as a base Internist with the rank of Captain. He was honorably discharged on July 29, 1962.
After his service in the Air Force, Robert was the 15th doctor hired by The Corvallis Clinic in 1962. He was an integral part of the hiring process for more excellent physicians to join the Clinic. He practiced Internal Medicine with a specialty of Allergies for 32 years. He retired in April of 1994 to Redmond, OR. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a member of North Pacific Society of Internal Medicine, West Coast Allergy Society, Oregon Thoracic Society, and the American College of Physicians.
After retirement Robert enjoyed traveling to all parts of the world - including China several times, Europe, Central America, and across the US in the motorhome. His passion was golf and once retired and living on a golf course, he played whenever he could. Robert also had a passion for music - mostly classical, jazz, guitar, and piano. When he was younger, he played in various "Dance Bands" as a means to put himself through Willamette University and Medical School. He even played in a jazz band after he moved to Corvallis and enjoyed being "the old guy"! He played the saxophone, the clarinet, and was learning to play the guitar and the ukulele. He also enjoyed being part of the Sliver Eagles motorcycle group. He owned a Harley and a BMW that took him to many places, rallies, and fun outings. As Robert grew older, his passion for the Air Force grew and he was honored to be a veteran.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Margaret A. Wilson (Schafer) of 67 years. He is also survived by his 4 children; Janette Harer (Kevin), Julie Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson (Becky), and Jay Wilson (Nanette). He has 8 grandchildren; Allyson (Harer) Friend (Jeremiah), Douglas Harer, Sydney Wilson, Schafer Wilson, Riley Wilson, Ciara Wilson, Ensen Wilson, and Enya Wilson. And 1 great-grandchild, Maya Harer. Jenny, his faithful Aussie, preceded him and is now by his side.
