Frederick Drummond Obituary

Frederick Ford Drummond
Frederick Ford Drummond, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, departed this world on October 18, 2020. Frederick was born July 13, 1931 in Enid, Oklahoma to Frederick Gentner and Grace Ford Drummond. After graduating from Hominy High School, he attended Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). While at OSU, he became a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He received a B.S. in Animal Science and also a 2nd Lieutenant Commission in the Army ROTC program upon graduation in 1953.
Frederick served as an Artillery Officer in West Germany during the cold war, where he also learned to ski - a sport he enjoyed over the years with good friends until age 85. After his military service, Frederick attended Stanford University on the GI bill where he received his MBA in 1957. He then moved to Kansas City to work as a loan officer for United Missouri Bank. The death of his father brought him back to Oklahoma to run the family ranch, when he met the love of his life on a double-blind date (his friend's date), and he and Janet Kathryn Trahern were married almost 62 years ago.
Upon returning to Oklahoma in 1958, Frederick wore various hats for work: the Cleveland Bank hat while serving as Chairman of the Board of the Cleveland Bank for 50 years with his friend and partner, Fred A. Drummond; various oil service company caps he earned from learning the oil business by the school of hard knocks; but of course his favorite was the cowboy hat he wore while successfully managing the family ranch through good times and bad working with great cowboys and employees.
Frederick always believed in giving back to the community and he was generous with his time and treasure. Frederick was a life-long Presbyterian serving his church, First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska, as an Elder and Sunday school teacher. Frederick was also a founding member and past Chairman of the Oklahoma Nature Conservancy, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve in Osage County.
Some of the other organizations he was involved with over the years and positions he held include: Chairman of the Pawhuska Library Board, Chairman of the Pawhuska Hospital Board, Chairman of the Osage County Historical Society, Member of the Oklahoma Historical Society, Member of the Gilcrease Museum Board, Chairman of the Federal Land Bank of Oklahoma, Chairman Grand River Dam Authority, President of the Osage County Cattlemen's Association, and President of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association.
In addition, Frederick received many awards and honors over the years, including: Osage County Cattlemen's Association Hall of Fame, Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association Cattleman of the Year, National Cowboy Museum's Hall of Great Westerners, OSU Alumni Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
Frederick is predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Tom Points, and brother-in-law Walter Woolley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, and his four children, Diana Cummins (husband Kelly), Ann Harper (husband Tom), Ford Drummond (wife Vanessa), and Jane Stiehl (husband John), and nine grandchildren, Charlotte Cummins, Will Cummins, Alex Harper, Andrew Harper, Virginia Drummond, Frederick Russell Drummond, Margaret Drummond, Ian Stiehl and Eleanor Stiehl, in addition to his sister, Ann Woolley, and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Drs. Pranay Kathuria and John Hubner, the Fresenius Team, and his caregivers Eduardo, Ernesto and Johanna for their special care. Due to COVID-19 concerns, a memorial service will not be held at this time. A public viewing will be held from 11 am to 5 pm at Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral Home, 219 E 6th Street in Pawhuska on Thursday, October 22. The family requests that any donations in Frederick's memory be made to The Drummond Home Museum, 305 N. Price Avenue, Hominy, OK 74035, or The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma, 10425 S 82nd E Avenue, #104, Tulsa, OK 74133.

We just heard about Fred's passing when making ski plans at the Rustler in Alta, Utah. We were there at the same time as Fred's Stanford group every year for over 25 years and will miss him greatly.
Janet --we do recall dinner with you in Portola Valley. I hope that you and the rest of the family continue to flourish.
