MAY'S LICK — Arnold Edmond Stitt, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1940, to the late Thomas Edmond and Audrey Florence Swart Stitt.
Arnold was born and raised in Mason County, where he met the love of his life, Brenda Gifford Stitt. They married in 1961 and started building a life together.
He was a member at May's Lick Lighthouse Church, where he faithfully served and worshiped. Arnold was a well-known dairy farmer in the May's Lick community. He raised dairy cattle and many acres of tobacco over the years. Arnold was a family man who enjoyed spending his time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Most mornings you could find him at Hardees, sipping on a cup of coffee, while catching up on the town gossip. He had a passion for motorcycles and even at his age, he still enjoyed taking his Harley Davidson for a spin. He and Brenda later became "snowbirds" spending their last 13 winters together in the warm sunshine at Lake Okeechobee in Florida. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his best friend and wife of 64 years, Brenda Gifford Stitt; his son, Lennie Ray Stitt of Paris, Ky. and daughter, Roxanne Paynter of Carlisle; grandchildren, Joshua Allen (Lori) Paynter of Paris, Ky., Aaron Lain (Taylor) Stitt of Carlisle, Dylan Thomas Stitt of Paris, Ky.; great grandchildren, Joshy Alan (Maekayla) Paynter of Winchester, Ky., Zack Paynter of Paris, Ky., Tucker Stitt and Emmy Stitt; great great grandson, Jackson Paynter; siblings, Brenda Stitt Roush of Lexington, Billy (Libby) Stitt of Mount Olivet, Dale (Dina) Stitt of May's Lick; several nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and dear friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Ronald Stitt; sister, Kay Burton, and two brother in laws, Elmer Burton and John Roush.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at 1 p.m. at May's Lick Lighthouse Church with Pastor Danny Howard officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Arnold will be laid to rest in Shannon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chad Howard, Joshua Paynter, Joshy Paynter, Zack Paynter, James Huddleston, and Tommy Reid. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Thackston, Mike Conway, Dale Stitt, Eric Stitt, and Austin Stitt.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Arnold's name to the May's Lick Light House Church 6682 US-68 May's Lick, KY 41055.
