Henry Ambrose Martin
March 17, 1927 - January 11, 2025
Mr. Henry Ambrose Martin of Geneva went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at his home. He was 97 years old. Henry was born March 17, 1927, to the late Jasper and Emma Belle Martin of Coffee Springs. He was married to his wife, the late Marie Johnson Martin for 71 years. Henry was a member of Eden Baptist Church in Coffee Springs, where he served as a past song director and director of Training Union. He was a man of action, rather than words. He loved Jesus and demonstrated to his children and grandchildren the deep sense of joy that comes from knowing our Savior. He also loved his family well, demonstrating how to love by devotedly and selflessly caring for and loving his wife through her declining last years. He lived a long life of faithfulness with the things God had entrusted him and a full reliance upon Him for the harvest.
Henry was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He began farming in the 1940's and actively farmed for over 71 years. He served on the Geneva County Conservation Board for 45 years, beginning in 1978. He is a past president of the Geneva County Hog Producers Association. He also served on the Board of the Geneva County Cattleman's Association. He served as a Geneva County Commissioner for two terms.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Christopher Martin, Tim Teat, Ben Roberts, Darrell Messer, Johnny Stafford, and Gavin Huguley serving as pallbearers, and grandson, Joshua Martin, officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Eden Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 5-7 pm. Flowers will be accepted or donations in memory of Mr. Martin can be made to Eden Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 100 Leland Court, Dothan, AL 36305.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Jane Francis Martin; his sister, Gladys Martin Gibson; and brothers, Barney Lee Martin, Leaman Martin, and Emmitt Martin.
Henry is survived by his two sons, Bobby (Liz) Martin and Don (Barbara) Martin; five grandchildren, Robert (Casey) Martin, Chelsie (Tim) Teat, Joshua (Amy) Martin, Christopher (Katie) Martin, and Nanette (Ben) Roberts; 20 great-grandchildren, Emma, Leah, George and Lucy Martin; Logan, Makenzie, Austin, Katelyn, Preston, and Landon Teat; Jude, Guy, Lottie, Luke, and Alice Martin; Jeremiah and Madison Martin; and John Martin, Henry, and Thomas Roberts; faithful friend and caregiver, Jake Hornsby; and several nephews and nieces and other extended family and friends.
The family would like to express a special thank you to two wonderful caregivers Ann McClenny and Ruby Shirah for the love and care they provided to Henry over the past 10 months. In addition, thank you to Gentiva Hospice.
To paraphrase Genesis 35:28 & 29: Now the days of Henry Martin were 97 years, 9 months, and 25 days. And Henry breathed his last, and he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Bobby and Don buried him.
