Bagnall, George H.

George H. Bagnall, 78, of Jacksonport, lost his courageous battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, August 12, 2012 at Ministry Door County Medical Center.

He was born May 24, 1934 to Hector and Mildred Bagnall. George graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the Signal Corps from March 9, 1954 until December 22, 1955. On May 24, 1974 he married Esther Scharrig at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

George and Esther raised their family on the Bagnall family farm where they received the Century Farm Award in 1983 and hosted the Sevastopol FFA Alumni Dairy Breakfast in July of 2000. George was proud to be a farmer and active in his community having served on the Jacksonport Town Board for 25 years in various offices the last being Town Chairman. He served on the ASCS committee, served as a director for Lake to Lake Dairy, member of the Jacksonport Historical Society where he was instrumental in the Erskine root cellar restoration along with researching and writing the "History of Jacksonport Town Government". George was a lifetime member of the Jacksonport Methodist Church, and a member of the Cherryland A's Model A Ford Club.

George is survived by his loving wife Esther, son, Timothy of Green Bay; daughters, Pamela (Steven) Krauel, Patty (Richard) Birnschein, Brenda (John) Gonion, Bonnie Bagnall all of Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Stacy (Craig) Basten of Appleton (and their children, Rachel and Elizabeth), Kevin (Olga) Birnschein of Green Bay (and their children, Anastasia and Victoria), Kurt Krauel of Sturgeon Bay (and his daughter, McKenzie (Stacy Larsen)), Kyle (Nicole) Krauel of Sturgeon Bay; one brother, Glenn Bagnall of Sturgeon Bay; two sisters-in-law, Alice Merkle of Baileys Harbor, Mary (Clayton) Haen of Sturgeon Bay, Ruth Berndt of Jacksonport; two brothers-in-law, Alvin (Diane) Scharrig of Jacksonport, Roy Clemens of Milwaukee; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, George Phillip Jr.; mother and father-in-law, Kurt and Betty Scharrig; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Bagnall, Helen Clemens; two brothers-in-law, Fritz Merkle, and Ronald Berndt. George's legacy to his family is Love and Respect of God, family, country, and community and friends.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (August 17, 2012) at the United Methodist Church in Sturgeon Bay with the Rev. Joe Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #3088.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening (August 16, 2012) at Huehns Funeral Home, and at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 2:00 p.m. A devotion will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Huehns Funeral Home with Gary Scharrig officiating.
