Carole DeRuiter Obituary

Carole Lynn Burns DeRuiter was born on March 15, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Ruth Vickers Elliot and Jerry N. Burns. She passed away on December 15, 2023 from respiratory complications at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center Florida. She grew up in Hampton, Virginia and graduated from Radford College, Virginia in 1960 majoring in secondary education Spanish and Social Studies. She married Air Force Lieutenant David DeRuiter in 1962 and commenced a life that took her around the world. She served nine years with the Virginia school system and 16 years with the Okaloosa County Florida school district. Her interests were in poetry and support to her college sorority Alpha Sigma Tau. She retired in 2002 with 25 years of teaching and moved with her husband to Sarasota, Florida in 2016. She had two children, four grand children, and two great grand children. Donations may be made to a charity of choice or Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority.

I met you and Carole in 1978 and envied your marriage: two people perfect for each other. We stayed in contact for the next 46 years. Amazing how two navigators retired as colonels! So glad we visited you and Carole in 2022. You had a marriage most people only dream about. You were blessed.
