Lloyd Hurt Obituary

LLOYD LEE HURT
December 13, 1948 ˜ November 21, 2023

We fondly remember and celebrate the life of Lloyd Lee Hurt, who was born on Dec. 13, 1948, and passed away on Nov. 21, 2023. As the cherished son of Albert Lloyd Hurt and Imogene Lucille Robinson, his life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and service.

Lloyd’s academic journey led him to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL, where he excelled in accounting. His time at the university was not just about academics; it was the foundation of a career marked by precision and integrity.

Lloyd married his beloved wife, Rhonda, in a touching ceremony at the Marion Illinois VA Medical Center on Sept. 28, 1975. Their union was a beautiful blend of love, respect, and companionship, reflecting Lloyd’s caring and thoughtful nature.

Professionally, Lloyd made his mark as a project manager at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. His commitment to his role was evident in every project he undertook, displaying a blend of leadership and meticulousness.

Lloyd’s service in the Army from 1969 to 1971 was distinguished by a unique skill: he was the only person in his unit who knew how to type. This talent led to his placement as a payroll clerk in El Paso, followed by a pivotal role in Fulda, Germany, as the company clerk and payroll liaison. In these positions, Lloyd was not just a clerk; he was a guardian of trust, ensuring the well-being of his fellow soldiers in a crucial time of need.

Beyond his professional life, Lloyd was known for his eclectic interests. He was a master at refinishing wooden golf clubs, a skilled creator of stained glass, and an enthusiastic metal detector user. These hobbies reflected his diverse passions and his ability to find joy in the simple things of life.

Lloyd’s love for his wife, Rhonda, and his favorite sport, golf, were legendary. It was often said, with a twinkle in the eye, that it was hard to tell which he loved more. His sense of humor underscores the depth of his affection and the lighthearted spirit he brought to every aspect of his life. As Lloyd’s health declined, he began another venture of interest; coin collecting. He found solace in remembering the old days, and as he was moving more slowly, it was a tangible hobby that brought him great joy.

Today, as we say goodbye to Lloyd Lee Hurt, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to family and duty. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, Lloyd, knowing you have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate to know you.

What a beautiful tribute! I knew Lloyd when we were members at Orchard Hills and we continued our golfing friendship when we both joined Camas Meadows. I'll miss his quick wit and our conversations in the Pro Shop and on the course. My deepest sympathies to Rhonda and the Hurt family.

We were privileged to have Lloyd as a neighbor for many years and enjoyed watching him come and go from the nearby golf course, knowing he was in his glory. He was someone you could count on if you needed help. Men like him are getting more rare and we certainly feel the loss. Our sympathies and love to Rhonda.
