James Chapman Obituary

James Edward Chapman Sr. was born on February 12, 1942, in (Traffic Circle) Saluda, SC. He was the son of the late Willie C. Foulks and Dela Chapman. He departed this life on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at PRISMA Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina. James was educated in the public schools of Saluda County, South Carolina where he attended Riverside High school. James joined Vermell in Holy Matrimony in 1968. Their Union of love was blessed with 53 years of love and devotion to each other. Mr. Chapman was a member of Zion Mill Creek Baptist Church of Columbia, South Carolina. James was a Truck Driver for Mount Vernon Mills trucking and was given the name "Carolina Bumper Jumper", where he later retired after 38 years. After retiring, he began his car detailing business. Lastly, he worked with his good friend Bo Huff at RTG where he would park cars and shuttle for USC Football games. Mr. Chapman was very known and loved in the Bluff Estate community, from helping with the community organization, to jokes and laughter, whistling and walking around the community or just him doing his favorite, sitting under his Magnolia Tree. James was a man of many different hobbies. His love for Cars as he was a part of First-Class Motor Club, where he had many accomplishments. Djing, DragRacing and many more. To know Mr. Chapman is to know, he is one of a kind. Heart so big he would give you the shirt off his back. Very giving man. There's not enough words to describe the great man, the legend himself Mr. James Edward Chapman Sr. 10-99 Carolina Bumper Jumper job well done! In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his wife, Vermell Chapman and his son, Terry Chapman. Those who will forever cherish his memories are his sons, Jeffrey (Angela) Jenkins, Jeffrey (Jacqueline) Williams, James Bernard Chapman, James (Jahnette) Chapman Jr.; daughters, Deborah Brown, and Delelia Chapman; sisters, Cassie Chapman, Ethel Etheridge; brother, Fred Chapman; twenty-six (26) grandchildren; sixteen (16) great- grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends, all of who will miss him dearly.
