Pete Stevens Obituary

RICEBORO - Elder Pete Stevens entered eternal rest on June 20, 2018, after fighting a long battle with sickle cell disease.
He was blessed by God's grace to persevere until age 62. Pete was the fourth of six children born to the late Rev. Christopher and Sarah Stevens. Pete was a 1974 graduate of Bradwell Institute. He was employed by Joe Addison Motors and Goodwill Industry, and was an insurance agent for many years serving Liberty County and surrounding areas.
Pete's fellowship with the church propelled him to teach Sunday school, sing in the choir and later became ordained as an elder.
Loved by all, he leaves to cherish his memory five daughters; Angelette Stevens, Sarah (Joseph) McDonald, Mary (Linton) Chapman, Catherine Stevens and Frances (Curtis) Underwood; 13 grandchildren; brothers and sisters; Bishop Norman (Mary Jo) Stevens, Deacon Kevins (Vera) Stevens, Dr. Deloris (John) Mitchell, Evangelist Connie (Joseph) Hasty and Karen (Elder Donald) Clark
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Dorchester Funeral Home, Midway.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Mt. Sinai Covenant Church, Highway 84, West at Simmons Crossing Ludowici. The body will lie at state from 10 a.m. until the service.
Interment will follow at First African Baptist Church in Riceboro.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Tapestry Connections, an organization dedicated in the fight sickle cell disease. Tapestry Connections, Inc. P.O. Box 775, Hinesville, Ga.

Uncle Pete, I am still trying to process the fact that you are no longer here. But I find comfort in the fact that you are no longer suffering in pain. I will always remember the encouraging words you've spoken to me and I will forever cherish them and our memories. You have not lost the battle but you won and I will always admire your strength and will power! You were an awesome uncle!! I miss you and love you lots!!

Hebrews 2: 14, 15 is comforting to reflect on. It reassures you what your Almighty Father in the heavens will do to end death and how that is comforting to you as you go from day to day. May your hearts be filled with His peace.

Uncle Pete,
You will always be remembered for your wit, humor, and laughter. I will never forget you telling me that you were in pain every single day. You're now pain free! You fought your battle for a long time...and now you have won! We will always remember you!

To the family, our hearts are heavy, still we rejoice and we want you to rejoice with us because Elder Stevens finished his race strong. Yes, it was a long battle, but we believe death was swallowed up in victory. We will miss him.
