Bill,
As Heidi dwells in the abode of the Saints, where there is no pain, sorrow, nor mourning, only Peace and Life Everlasting, know that you and your family are in my prayers during this tragic and difficult time.

Condolences to the Garriot family on your loss. Mrs. Garriot taught two of my daughters and my son was in her class this year. She is a household name in our home. A superb teacher of top quality. Her students and the whole school will miss her terribly.

I knew Mrs. Heidi Garriott as a fellow teacher, as well as the teacher and tutor of my children.
When I started teaching at Yeshiva Derech Hatorah 9 years ago, Mrs. Garriott was the most experienced teacher on staff. Although her job title was not “teacher mentor” at that point, she filled that role for me, and I would frequently speak to her after school to hear her take on things, and get advice. She was positive and encouraging, thoughtful and deliberate, and always spot-on. I was so grateful to have her as a sounding board. We worked together for 5 years, and it was a privilege to get to know her.
Mrs. Garriott was very disciplined and expected the same of her students. She had high expectations and was very consistent and very firm, but her smile, laughter, songs, and creativity made her a beloved teacher. She would give out little erasers as prizes, which her first grade girls would eagerly collect. Her classroom was a wonderland! The decor changed as the seasons did, with beautiful 3D displays. She put lots of effort in making it a beautiful, colorful, and exciting space. To encourage reading, she had a little themed reading nook designed and built (I think by Mr. Garriott- thank you!) that she’d place in her classroom at some point in the year, which girls took turns reading in. She had her first grade girls make science fairs (I think animal fairs, too,) and other classes (like mine!) were honored guests at her educational fairs.
Mrs. Garriott was a passionate educator who believed in her students. She would think of ways to make each child succeed, tweaking the curriculum to reach them where they were at, with incentives and creativity. Each student learned so much from her!
Mrs. Garriott was a regal woman. She carried herself with such dignity and grace, and was a role model to both students and staff. I will miss her.
