Guy Garheart Obituary

Guy "Bud" Garheart, II, 75, of Littlestown, PA passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Bridging Life Dove House with his son, daughter, and sister Grace by his side. Born July 3, 1949 in Olney, MD he was the son of the late Guy, Sr. and Louella (Groves) Garheart. Bud was a 1968 graduate of the first graduating class of South Carroll High School. During his school years, Bud learned his work ethic working on the Rash Brothers Farm in Sykesville. After high school, he went to work at Springfield Hospital Center where he retired as Chief of Police after 30 years of service. After a short retirement, he went on to serve as a bailiff in the MD state court system for 22 years. Bud especially enjoyed his part time positions with Carroll Hospital Center Safety and Security and as a Range Officer at the Hap Baker Firearms Facility. If you asked him his greatest achievement, he would tell you "my kids". His greatest joys were camping and hiking with his daughter, hunting with his son, and spending time with his grandchildren and extended family. He was a member of Mineral Hill Sportsman's Club in Garrett County, MD. He leaves behind his 2 children - Guy Garheart, III and his wife Sarah, Megan Garheart and her long-time significant other, Brandon Shiloh; grandchildren Guy "Ridgely" IV, Weston Shiloh, and a granddaughter arriving in late March; siblings Grace Mariner, Patricia Cohen and her husband Joe, and Bill Garheart and his wife Robin. In addition, he will be dearly missed by his beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as the many "adopted" kids who saw him as a second Dad and mentor. The family will welcome friends on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 12 to 2pm and 4 to 6pm at which time services will begin at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd. Westminster, MD with Pastor Cary Moorman. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website homepage. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bud's name to Bridging Life Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster MD 21157. Guy was always a very quiet person when I taught him at Sykesville Jr. High. but he usually worked hard. I would not recognize him now if I had seen him, according to this picture. Then I met his son at PVCFD where I sometimes volunteered. I recognized the name as soon as I heard it. May God bless Guy's family and help them through their loss.
