Robert Philburn Obituary

Robert J. Philburn, 94, of Annapolis passed away at home on September 29, 2023. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and active parishioner of St. Mary's Church. He was born January 24,1929 in Irvington, NJ to Louise and William F. Philburn. After graduation from Seton Hall University in 1949, he worked on Wall Street and served in the Army National Guard. Following Army active duty, he began work for Shell Oil Company from which he retired after a distinguished 35-year career. His beloved wife of 42 years, Therese M. O'Connor, predeceased him in 2001. They had three children and six grandchildren. In 2004, he married Maureen Mershon of Annapolis. He sang in St. Mary's choir and served as a lector for decades. He enjoyed celebrating his Irish heritage with the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He remained active into his 90's enjoying his grandchildren, sailing, travel and cruises. He contributed throughout his life to charitable organizations supporting Catholic schools, social services, and vocations. He will be remembered for his cheerful optimism, strong faith, and love for his family. He is survived by his children Robert T. (Åsa), Ann (Michael Feldtmose), and Justin (Ginger), and grandchildren Angelica, Kasey, Kevin, Luke, Flynt and Ronin. Left to cherish his memory is Maureen and her family who affectionately called him Poppy Bob. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary's Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.
