Robert Shaver Obituary

Mr. Robert R. Shaver, 68, of Pittsfield, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 following a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. Born in Pittsfield, MA on June 25, 1955 the son of the late Robert P. Shaver and Dorothy H. Pularo, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1973 and received a Bachelors of Arts in English Communication in 1990, and a Bachelors of Arts in Education in 1994 from North Adams State College.

An accomplished, and nationally ranked athlete, he was the National 1-Meter Springboard Diving Champion during his senior year in high school. Additionally, he coached track and football for local youth programs.

Robert was a United States Army Veteran from 1981-1984 where he was assigned to the Special Forces Unit at Fort Bragg as a SPEC/4 Team leader.

After his military service, Rob was employed as a substitute teacher at Hug High School in Reno, NV as well as at Wahconah Regional High School, and Pittsfield High School. It was through these endeavors that he then found his passion in helping the emotionally & developmentally challenged population where he spent the last 25 years employed for Guidewire, Inc., as a teacher, guide, counselor, and role model.

Among his many interests, his passions were studying and collecting artifacts in American & Military History, collecting sports memorabilia, spending time with close friends, and playing with his loyal Boston Terrier, Bigsby.

Robert is survived by his sister, Deborah Shaver-Bates (Dennis), as well as his nephews, Todd Fuhrmann and David Izzo, and nieces Lindsey Fuhrmann and Darleen Izzo-Trujillo.

Besides his parents, Robert and Dorothy, he was predeceased by his sister, Darleen Shaver in 2010. Funeral Notice:

Debbie and family, I was sad to hear of the passing of Bob. I went to school with him at MCLA (NASC) and we were in some of the same classes together. Bob was a great guy...truly wonderful! I will never forget him. My heart breaks for you all. God Bless you all.

Robby was a classmate but we were also the Diving Duo of PHS our senior year. Thank you Robby, for your coaching, encouragement and friendship. Competing along side you was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Peace be with you!

Sad to hear of Robby´s passing. We grew up houses away from each other but quickly lost contact after Jr. high school days. The good old days were just that, the good old days. RIP Robby.
