We remember Denis fondly. We have a drawing that he gave us prominently displayed. He once helped our son with his Halloween costume. Great neighbor!

I still fondly remember our professional relationship. I think our interests in things anatomical complimented each other very well. A lot of my success came about because we worked together so well. He was a wonderful colleague. If memories like this linger after almost 30 years, they certainly must mean something special.

I always admired Denis's artistic talent. His medical illustrations helped numerous people. His oil paintings and sculptures created during retirement gave him much personal satisfaction.

I didn't have the opportunity to know Denis, but I was a good friend of and next-door neighbor to Jerry Hodge, who shared a similar path. U of M was fortunate to have two such talented men.

Seeing the obituary for Denis, though sad, brings back many good memories of Francie and her gift for friendship in our piano group and the many visits to their home where we enjoyed the music and viewing Denis´ artwork. They added so much to our group. Melinda Morris

I took a medical illustration class one summer at the U of M (1986 I think). My hopes were to become a medical illustrator. He and Dr. Hodges spearheaded the class I think. I learned so much from both of these professors that year, in terms of illustration. Pen and Ink is one of my favorite mediums, and Mr. Denis helped me to see this pen and ink in a different perspective.
I also had to opportunity to see how he created his prosthetics, which truly fascinated me, that I wish I would of pursued that further. Such a beautiful person.

Denis and I shared a working relationship for many years when I was a member of the medical schools Anatomy and Cell Biology Department. He was instrumental in helping me start the Plastination Laboratory that served as a major educational resource to both the medical school and the biomedical illustration program that he led. He was a wonderful colleague and friend. Although our paths haven´t crossed for many years, the memories of our many collaborations are still fresh in my mind. I´m so glad our lives crossed paths in the way they did.
