I met Ian in 2008 when I started working as a play specialist at Kidz First Hospital where he volunteered twice a week, spending time engaging in play with children on the surgical ward. He had such an easy way with children, families, and staff that I could see exactly why he held a special place in the hearts of everyone he interacted with. I can still picture him with a cheeky grin on his face sitting at a table with a child in hospital pyjamas, giving a gentle ribbing about how he`d beat them in whatever board game they were playing - usually Trouble, Scrabble or Rummikub. Somehow, no matter how shy or anxious a child was about why they were in hospital, Ian managed to get them to laugh and to give as good as they got! Over the years, Ian became a sort of grandfather figure for our play specialist team; and even when he could no longer volunteer at the hospital he still made trips to see us and welcomed us into his home always taking an interest in what was going on in our lives, wanting to make sure that we were well. He spoke often of his family, his love for them wholly evident, and we all knew weekends would be busy with grandchildren`s sports games and other family activities. Ian was especially dear to me, and I treasured the moments we were able to catch up despite my frequent moves across the country. He was one of the best human beings I`ve ever known; a kind, witty, generous, and selfless man who always inspired me to see the bright side of life, and who didn`t seem to mind the fact that I knew nothing about sports and that he never could convince me to watch a single cricket match! Ian, thank you. You`ll be missed, but forever in our hearts.

We have the fondest memories of Mr Plummer as our Form 2 teacher at Panmure District Primary. He taught my brother Dirk in 1972 and I was lucky enough to be in his class in Term 1 1976. An inspirational teacher. Great on current affairs, he inspired all of his students and made learning exciting. "Press on Regardless" was his motto, still remember that to this day. Sympathy to the Plummer Family. A once in a lifetime teacher, fondly remembered after all these years. RIP. Cathy and Dirk van Haarlem

Mr Plummer was my form 1 & 2 teacher at Panmure Primary and as a testament to how good he was I have never forgotten him.
He made school fun for the class especially when he would flick orange pips at us during maths.
Great teacher and person and had an enduring influence on me.
