Dean was the absolute salt of the earth. He would do anything for the children and their sport at school. It was a privilege to work with him, to see him coaching and bringing out the best in everyone. Sincere condolences to Chris and the family.

Just heard this very sad news, 1 1/2 years late. I taught with Dean at Henderson High and Avondale College and had the utmost respect for the man. The care and support he gave not only his classroom pupils but the many hundreds of students involved in sport, was immense and much to be admired. He was the 'Grandfather' of Avondale College's Girls water polo and football and was much loved and appreciated by students and colleagues. His enthusiasm, support and interest in how the students were going resulted in a number of the girls representing NZ in the National Women's team, the Football Ferns. A great contribution to the youth of the day. Well done Dean. x Moppy.
