Lydia Campbell Obituary

Mrs. Lydia Z. Campbell of Point Pleasant peacefully passed away at her home after a short illness on October 8, 2025. Born in Katowice, Poland and immigrated to the United States as a result of World War II. She lived a great life, touring the world several times. She most recently visited relatives in Poland during the Christmas holiday in 2015, a trip she deeply treasured.

She was a strong supporter of the classical arts: opera, theatre, ballet and symphonies in New York and throughout the United States and the world. When in New York City, she loved going to the Frick Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, particularly at Christmas.

She was a proud member of the Kosciusko Foundation in NYC and attended their 100 anniversary at the Plaza Hotel this year. She was also a member of the Bay Head Yacht Club and the Cosmopolitan Club in NYC. She loved the United States and its freedoms, was always proud of her Polish roots, and stood by their fight for freedom and independence.

Most of all she loved her family and friends. Lydia was predeceased by her parents Leopold and Sophia Obierek, her husband Donald F. Campbell, and her brother Mark Obierek. She is survived by her son Timothy L. Campbell of Lebanon, NH; her son and daughter-in-law Douglas W. and Martha Campbell of Cincinnati, Ohio; her granddaughters Lauren Campbell of Cincinnati and Megan Campbell of Cape Cod, MA; and her nephews and nieces Andrew Obierek, Gregory Obierek, Scott Mangin, Jeffrey Mangin, Peter Mangin, Nancy Campbell, Fred Campbell, Linda Campbell, Cynthia DeMarco, William Campbell, Richard Hamilton, and  Steven Hamilton.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 10 AM at St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach. A reception will follow at the Bay Head Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kosciuszko Foundation, NYC. www.thekf.org

Nice memories of first meeting Lydia (1979 ish) while traveling to NYC with Tim during our school years, Lydia being such a welcoming and gracious host. Her warmth and love made me feel very comfortable.
