Surrounded by love and his family, James “Jimmy” Heise, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 55 on February 17th, 2021 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Born and raised in Collingswood, NJ and 22 year resident of Mantua, NJ. Jim is the beloved and cherished son of Betty (Whiting) McKeown and the late Harry Mckeown. Jimmy graduated from Collingswood High School, Class of 1985. He then went on to proudly serve his country with the U.S Army in Desert Storm. During his years of service, Jim was able to visit Berlin when the Wall came down, ski in Switzerland, visit Lake Geneva, and swim in the Mediterranean while visiting Nice and Monte-Carlo.
Jim later worked as a Corrections Officer at Trenton State Prison and South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton, NJ where he retired in 2019 after 26 years of service. During his time in corrections, Jim held the position of Executive Vice President for NJ’s largest police union, PBA Local #105, where he was able to support many of his beloved brothers and sisters in blue.

To the Heise family, I want to say that I sadly understand your grief, as I lost my father to Covid-19 this past year. He had dementia, and was one of many who got ravaged by this horrible disease, while he was in a nursing home.
My oldest son Brendan, played his first year of township basketball under the gentle, and friendly guidance of Jim’s coaching. He taught my son a great deal, and for that, he continued playing basketball all throughout high school, and whenever the courts beckon.
I used to think that Jim was going to need something surgically removed from his hand. At every sports function, where he was watching his kids play, that video recorder was always in use. I would imagine that there is a bit of commentary to each game, and that his family will highly covet, that which was recorded in video, and in audio.
I remember a game during my son’s first year of basketball, that was a nail biter and Jim got a technical foul. The other team scored some free throws and won the game. Jim was just fighting for his players. He put his head down and I could hear him say that the loss was his fault. He told the kids that, because he felt bad for how hard they worked. One could tell that it bothered him, but that team won the Jamboree that year, if I am not mistaken, and coach made it a great experience.

Jim, how can we look out our windows and not think of you. Having you as a friend/neighbor was truly a blessing. We miss seeing you outside - mowing your lawn (especially when it was dark out and you had to use several headlights!), listening to your rock-n-roll music in your car, hanging out with Boomer, always working on your cars, decorating, always busy.... The rides you gave to and from practices and the encouragement you always gave will never be forgotten. Our daily hellos and conversations are so missed by all of us and will be for a long time to come. The street just isn’t the same without you. Couldn’t have asked for a better friend and neighbor.

Jim and I worked many years together. He was a good and reliable friend I always looked up too. Up to his retirement I tried to take a some time out to go hang out with him over at the “W”. He talked often about the love for his kids and family. I will always cherish his friendship. Gone to soon. God speed Jim

Mr. Heise was one of the nicest, most helpful person you could meet. My father always knew he was one of the coaches who truly cared about his players and all the kids. He always had time to stop and say hello when I was working at JMT, even if it was just a quick conversation. CYB lost another great one who touched so many lives. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.
