Allison Marie (DeBoer) Wessels was born on January 3, 1974. She was the first baby of the year at Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
Allison graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked at South Dakota School for the Deaf, had a childcare business in her home, and worked for Edison Middle School.
Allison is mother to Elizabeth Powell and Jacob Wessels. She felt her most important job was raising her children. She was a creative, fun, and devoted mother, and she enjoyed making encouragement cards and special foods for her children. She made many sacrifices and wanted the best for them and their futures.
She loved animals, especially monkeys, and going to the zoo, and she loved her dogs Benny and Lucy. Her other favorites were daisies, butterflies, cardinals, Snack Pak Lemon Pudding, Funyuns, Corn Nuts, brookies, Dr. Pepper, apple juice, Nicholas Sparks novels, Hallmark movies, and hard rock music including Bon Jovi, Green Day, Motley Crue, AC/DC, Poison, Whitesnake, Guns-n-Roses, and Metallica.
Allison passed away on August 15, 2025, at Doughtery House in Sioux Falls, following a short battle with an aggressive form of colon cancer.
Allison is survived by her children Elizabeth and Jacob; her mother Marcia Andrews; her father LaVerle DeBoer; her grandmother Elizabeth Vanden Heuvel; several uncles, aunts, and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by grandparents, George Vanden Heuvel, Jacob (Opa) DeBoer, and Mary (Oma) DeBoer, and great grandparents.
The family is grateful to Avera Health System and Dougherty House for Allison’s care. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family for immediate needs.
A celebration of life for Allison will be held at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, on August 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with family present one hour before the service.
