John Edward TINGEY

John TINGEY Obituary

Passed away peacefully at home on the evening of 31st January 2025, aged 86 years. Dearly loved husband to Mary, and father to Anna, Cam and Liz, father-in-law to Tim, Kristen and Mark. Beloved grandfather of George, Fred, Poppy and Olive Tingey, Mitch, Louis and Francesca Eglinton. A celebration of John's life will be held at his church, Kohimarama Presbyterian, 34 Kohimarama Road on Wednesday 5th February at 11.00am

I was saddened to hear of the passing of John on Friday evening. The relationship between John`s family and the Plimmer family goes back many many years. I have it in my mind that John was at school with my second oldest brother Richard who passed away in 1956. John`s brother Edward was best man at our wedding in 1970 and I was privileged to be asked to speak at his funeral in 2023. That friendship stretched and never waned from when we both started at Scots College as 8 year olds in 1957. Both our fathers served together on the Board of Scots College at the same time and of course we have memories of `Foot Tours´ when John joined us and we saw many parts of the South Island we´d never seen before.
