Ian LEGGAT Obituary

Passed away peacefully, on Friday, July 25, 2025, aged 96 years. Dearly loved by his late wife Barbara, his late wife Thelma and her family, and his treasured companion Jill and her family, dearly loved father and father-in-law of Richard and Pam, Kate and Mark, and James and Anna, grandfather of Georgia, Gabrielle, James, Rosa, Andrew, Ben, Jack, Hamish, Joe, and Thomas, and great-grandfather of Olive, Arthur, Nina, and George. Thanks to the team at Ashley Suites at The Russley Village for the care given to Ian. Messages may be addressed to: The family of the late Ian Leggat, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. A memorial service to celebrate Ian's life will be held at Westpark, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on August 12, at 2.00pm. Ian, a great mentor, tutor and very fine person.
As our tutor at training college in 1965 you showed us the way. Professional, caring,extremely capable and a great role model to our group.

Ian will be remembered fondly by all colleagues and students of Christchurch Boys' High. He was an outstanding headmaster and he enjoyed getting to know his staff their spouses and partners and their families. He did this by inviting groups of staff to his place and he a Barbara really enjoyed this social contact. As a staff member you felt the support. I was fortunate to teach James and Andrew and I know he was very proud of his children and grandchildren. As us cricketers say 96 was a great innings. Altiora Peto. Mark and Vicki Burtt
