So sad to hear this news. I shared a room with Dave when he was doing his PhD at Lincoln University. I liked his sense of humour and we had some great laughs. Thoughts are with you Sue.

We are thinking of you in these sad times, Sue. Thank you for having been a great neighbour in our Tokomaru community, and making settling in to rural life easier for us.

Dave was a valued and committed colleague and friend that made a very important contribution to New Zealand pastoral agriculture via his extensive contacts within the sector. His direct manner and courageous suspicion of bureaucracy was greatly valued by all close to him.
My sincere sympathy to Sue and his family.

His obituary is understated, per his style. His passions, achievements and impacts were outsized. Dave was an uncommon man.

My lasting memory of Dave was when I first met him early on a Saturday morning when I turned up at 155 Blighs Rd in Christchurch looking for a flat. He was slightly bleary-eyed and clutching a mug of coffee. Oh - and he seemed a bit grumpy! Something I realised was a front but he did "grumpy" rather well! This was over 40 years ago. He was my friend in a close sense until life and careers took us in different directions. I count Dave as "one of the good ones". Rest easy my friend. Love to Sue and family. Robert Brewer.
