I played hockey with and against Brian over a number of years in the 1960´s. I particularly remember 1967 when he was one of our fullbacks in the Canterbury University team when we first one the senior competition.

Fond memories of Brian during the mid-late 80's when I was a uni student involved in cycle racing. We had some great chats about poetry. Thinking of you at this sad time. RIP Brian.

Brian was like a Leonardo Da Vinci or Michael Angelo of NZ literature. His words, views, visions and advice about protecting and appreciating Aotearoa will be greatly recognised in the decades and centuries ahead. In a right wing world Brian's report on the state of Kiwis' approach to protecting the country put him in a minority as a greenie. People who don't love NZ as we know it, feel 'greenies' only get in the way of progress. On the contrary, Brian will be more greatly honoured in years to come what he and many of his friends have espoused relating to appreciating and protecting Aotearoa. His wordsmithing achievements reached many summits. I felt inspires in his company and loved challenging him on sporting issues and policies. Kua hinga he totara i te wao nui a Tane: a great totara has fallen in the forest of Tane. BLT was one of the best anyone could know. The gap he leaves in people's hearts will cause pain for a very long time.

Place always makes me feel at peace when I read it. I always enjoy reading Brian´s poems in Timeless Land. Thank goodness he was born. My thoughts to all of his family and close friends who will enjoy memories of a man who appeared to live life as true to what his soul felt, thought and believed. Regards, Jude

New Zealand has lost a real champion - so much empathy and shared values between so many of us and him. So much sadness.

The late Michael Henderson´s family, Ellie, Nick, Ross and Matt share the sadness of Brian´s passing but also remember with love the joys of an enduring friendship of sixty years. Our thoughts are with the Turner family.
