We are extremely shocked and saddened to hear of Williams passing. We arrived in NZ from the UK with our youngest son Tom who had a kidney transplant a year earlier aged 4. William guided Tom through his early post transplant years and into his teens with huge success and handed him over to the adult renal team. Now 20 years post transplant and changes now occurring I so wish we could thank William again for his support. We could not have done it without his unwavering support. RIP William, Much love. My condolences to William's family. I am very saddened to know of his passing. Dr William Wong was my son's nephrologist from infancy to age 6.
Without William's wonderful care, explanations and kindness I'd have been lost. A wonderful man.

Rest in God's loving embrace Dr. William Wong

It only seems like yesterday when you first met our daughter Nuia & us in Oct 2017 coming over from Tonga.
You calmly told us the shocking news of Nuia's kidney condition and what was best to do as we were not eligible for NZ's
healthcare. We left with the hope you gave us that Nuia could last for 3 - 4 weeks.
In the 4th week you were again surprised and delighted to see us with Nuia's NZ passport and from that moment you became a valued and cherished member of our family - to Nuia you became her Renalpa
Malo 'aupito Dr William Wong for all you did for Nuia especially during our darkest days of being uncertain and unsure of Nuia's medical condition you were a beam of light and hope to us filled with God's grace and wisdom to guide us. Much too often, Nuia got away with certain tasks using your name during our hospital stays and you would laughed when she told you about it & agreeing literally with
everything she did- that was how dear you were to her and us.

Thank you again Dr William Wong for our Nuia and us.
We will remember you always
God bless

'Ofa lahi atu moe lotu

William was my son´s pediatric nephrologist from the time he was born, almost 17 years ago. He was incredibly kind, humorous and patient with all our questions, and was there at the end of the phone advising when my son fell sick on a holiday overseas, as well as so many times through the years as we dealt with our ups and downs. We are so grateful for his care and send our deepest condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear of William's long illness and recent death. He worked with us at Birmingham Children's Hospital UK before taking up his appointment at Starship Hospital. William was a lovely colleague whose quiet, empathetic manner endeared him to his patients. He was a conscientious and hard working doctor who had the confidence of colleagues and patients. While in Birmingham he and Margaret promoted the cause of children with severe nut allergy - an issue that remains in the UK news to this day. I very much regret not having met with William after he returned to New Zealand although we continued to occasionally communicate electronically. My sincerest condolences to Margaret and all his family, friends and colleagues in New Zealand and around the world. David Milford

William you will be sadly missed by all whom you have touched personally and professionally. I fall into both those camps and am really saddened I really didn't get to know you better personally. You were always friendy, approachable and kindly asked after my family whenever our paths crossed - often in far off places. I will cherish those memories - it's a shame there won't be more. Deepest condolences to Margaret, your family and brothers. May you rest in peace. Jeff Wong (on behalf of Lee shun and Lisa )

Our family have very heavy hearts today learning of the passing of Jethros amazing Renal Specialist who has been with us since day one of his aHUS diagnosis,14 years ago.

William was the first to sit down with me and inform me that Jethro's kidneys had failed and we were dealing with not only renal failure, but an ultra rare illness not seen in NZ before and with no access to the treatment needed.

Despite how fragile Jethros life and odds were William stabilised my boy, restored his kidney function and found us Jethros alternative treatment that has had him defying the odds ever since, and still doing well to this day.

I remember when Jethro was 8 months old William telling me not to hold my hopes too high that he would come off life support or make it to see his first birthday. But because of this man and all the research and effort he put in for us we saw Jethro reach his 1st birthday, his 2nd, his 5th, his 10th, and most recently his 14th.

He advocated for us a lot, traveled the world to meet with aHUS experts and tried extremely hard to get special circumstances grants to help us try and get access to Soliris. He was brilliant at what he did, he cared whole-heartedly and I know this loss will be felt by the paedeatric unit and families greatly.

I feel so blessed to have had this wonderful human leading my boys care all these years, we owe Jethros life to him and will miss him immensely.

All our love and thoughts are with Williams family, his other patients, his friends and co-workers as they grieve this huge loss.

Rest easy Dr Wong and thank you for everything!
