Harry Tweed

July 11, 2024

My name is Harry Tweed (79 years old) and I guess I am a nephew of Bill's. I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I just missed the opportunity to meet him when he stayed at my brother Danny Tweed's home in Portrush, Northern Ireland several years ago. I have lived in Australia since 1973.

My wife Mary and I live in a small village called Jamberoo in NSW, which is just south of Wollongong. We had hoped to be able to meet up with Bill when we visit NZ next year as Danny was full of admiration for Bill.

If anyone else in the NZ Tweed family would like to share some memories and stories, we would love to hear from you. We can be contacted by email at [email protected] or [email protected]

Condolences from the Australian Tweeds, Harry & Mary.

Sorry to hear of your passing. Bill was the nicest of men and great bass trombonist. I had the pleasure of playing with him in the Prohibition Big Band from when he joined in about 1996 until I moved away in 2008/9. His positive cheerful nature certainly made the world a better place. I still remember him telling us his alarm clock theory - he said before sleeping he would lift and lower his head the number of times for the hour he wanted to wake (ie 7 times for 7 o'clock or 5 times for 5 o'clock) and it had never failed him. A true pleasure to have known him.

Our sincere condolences to all Willie's family - really shocked to hear of his sudden passing - only in March catching up at the NZ Jampot Rally. Thank you for the many happy times and laughs on motorcycling trips we shared together over the years, especially the tour of Northland in 2009. RIP William. We'll miss you. With Regards, Mindy & Steve, Tetley Brook, Marlborough.

As a trombonist friend I always found Bill ready with a smile and a can do attitude. We shared bass trombone humour . He played in many shows for me and had an infectious laugh and was a pleasure to share company with . I will miss him .

I met Bill as a customer when he asked if I could help him get his Chrysler on the road. Over the years working on Bills cars and motorbikes we became good friends. Bill was always a gentleman, polite, fair & honest. We were both looking forward to doing other projects together. I will miss Bill dearly.
Rest in peace Bill.

Sad to say farewell to our old bandmate Bill. An original and still current member of the Downbeat Big Band ( formerly the Jack Morris Big Band). 45 years and still going strong until last Monday, he was missed at Monday nights rehearsal and will be from now on. Condolences to Nicola and Bob, a couple of our oldest supporters.
