What a man. As kids (we were neighbours) we grew up near Bill, he was a lovely chap, and used to give my dad
(Phil Jackson) free tickets from time to time in the late 70's era. For me it was Ivan Mauger!
As I regularly passed his house, I couldn't help but notice he had a small motorcycle, a silver tanked Suzuki, possibly 175cc-250cc. I was now a teenager (circa 1990 or so) with a 1938 350cc Velocette motorcycle, and happened to be passing by while he was washing his car. I stopped for a chat, and asked him if he wanted a ride,
he fairly leapt on it and was gone. He had spirit did Bill! I won't mention him running out of fuel..

Dear Aunty Catherine, I am so sorry for your loss. I've got wonderful memories of Bill, his energy, generosity, the fun I had at speedway, in the eye in the sky and watching the speedboats from the air. He was truly special. He will be missed by many but mostly I know by you - and knowing that I send you all my love. From Marlies

Dear Catherine, so sorry that Bill has passed away. He was always such a gentleman, very thoughtful and loving. I'll never forget him whisking me off to lunch in the city years ago, chatting with the carpark attendant and organising a priority park , and shouting me a sumptuous lunch at one of your favourite haunts, all to say thank you for being your boss when it was the easiest thing in the world. I'm thinking of you and know that you will give him the best farewell ever. Lots of love

Dear Catherine,
Sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I will always have fond memories of those early years with Henwoods and later our Wedding & 21st 40ish years ago and the times we came across him at various events. Last had a chat at Dad's funeral (Bob Wigg) it was so nice to see him again and appreciated him being there. Will always be remembered.

Dear Catherine, Sad to hear "The eye in the sky" has passed away. I spent many hours in a Cessna 172 with Bill reporting on Aucklands traffic. Was always a pleasure to work with Bill. He was always happy and had a great sense of humour.I could never understand how in the middle of winter Bill would arrive in a T shirt to do the flights. I'd be wrapped up .What a lot of fun we had. Farewell my friend. Regards David Iles
