John Oliver

We are so terribly sorry to hear of Willa's death but with it brings such happy memories. I arrived in Auckland a naive 18 year old and think his guidance helped me to navigate the next 30 years of life, let alone the waters around Rangitoto.
Whether it was hunting for mussels on the estuary or listening to the saxophonist next door with "sundowners" I cannot imagine doing it with a more charming, witty or generous man. From all the Olivers in UK and the wider world, we will remember him fondly and send our love to Rosalind and his family.
Eternal rest grant unto him, oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

I remember Willa and Rosalind sailing a Cherub Class yacht against us at Paramata Inlet over a few Easter Regattas a long time ago. I remember visiting their house in Evans Bay to see the new to NZ Flying Fifteen being built. I remember borrowing another Flying Fifteen and sailing down Auckland Harbour to Motohui Island for the day.
I Remember meeting Willa few years ago at AB's and Adriene's Wedding Anniversary and finding Willa there remembering me very well after at least a decade of no contact.
You have had a great life and I assume you will keep sailing through the next one as well as the past one.
All the best

Life long friend of Jean Hursthouse and Clement Atkinson. During the1960's mentor to newly weds Jenny and Noel Christensen. Willa's past experiences and engineering prowess were greatly appreciated.
'That's what a ship is you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs. But what a ship really is, is freedom.'
Sail well through eternity, Willa.
