William BACKHOUSE Obituary

BACKHOUSE, William John. WWII RNZAF Pacific 10 S.U. 4213022. On Tuesday, 29th March 2022, aged 100 years. Much loved husband of the late Emma, dearly loved Dad of Ron, Helen and Gillian, father-in-law of the late Jo, Walter and the late Graeme, loved Granddad of Claire, Alex, Franziska and Monika, and loved Great-Granddad of Melinda, Sean William and Gabriel. Bill will be sadly missed by all who loved him. A private service will be held at Purewa.

My sincere sympathy on the loss of you Dad. I remember him and your Mum so well. What a great age for him to reach. Your parents were very good friends of my mother and father in law ..Shep and Betty Smith. I was married to their son Raoul. I last saw your parents many years ago in Whangaparoa when we visited them during one of our trips to Auckland. Have often wondered how they were. We lunched with them back then. They were lovely folk and always nice to Raoul and I. Sincerest thoughts on your loss. Jeanette Smith

This is sad news indeed.
Condolences to you all. Bill and Emma were such good friends to our family over so many years. I have great memories of various family get togethers where laughter was a constant theme. Mum and Dad (Iris and Rick) certainly valued Emma and Bill as two of their very first Kiwi friends. Much love. Jane and family.
