Willi Germann Obituary

Willi was born in Zurich, Switzerland. He came to Canada in 1957 through Montreal, where he lived and worked for a short time before coming to Vancouver. He met and married his wife of 63 years in 1961. After a 4-month honeymoon driving around the perimeter of the USA, the crazy couple took the steamer from NYC and headed to Beryl's home country of England. Here, Willi worked for an Interior design firm. The best job he ever had, according to him. He was able to work on high-end projects, even travelling to Kuwait to work on the Sheik's palace. Another move ensued back to his beloved Switzerland for 2 years before emigrating back to Vancouver in 1966 forever. He worked for almost 25 years for CP Air. It was a good family joke that he had been retired longer than he worked. He spent almost his whole life enjoying his passion for jazz music by either listening, playing or promoting it. He loved to run. Completing 35 marathons and one ultra marathon before the major car crash in Nevada ended that chapter. He played in the Delta Music Makers concert band for over 30 years. DMM were a great support over the years, and great friendships prevailed.

Willi was tragically predeceased by his son Clifford in 1989 and his sister Senta (Ruedi).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Kirkland House in Ladner on Saturday, July 5, from 1pm to 4pm. Feel free to wear your favourite fedora or aviators in honour of Willi's epic style. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Fraser MacPherson Jazz Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
