Gosh I am so sorry to learn of Welly's passing - my [albeit late] condolences to his family; a wonderful charismatic chap indeed.
I only met Welly once, early this year [he did ask me to call him that] when I delivered a jazz CD he purchased from me on TradeMe. Thrilled to receive in such quick time he invited me in & showed me his massive cd collection literally room-after-room. Mind blowing - & sadly just today I have seen his treasures at auction with Cordys.
During my visit we chatted for some time & I asked how he came to have such a unique christian name & he responded by saying his mother came up with it "and it's better than Petone Choy don't you think?!" We laughed. God Bless, just that one little meeting was such a joy. Lovely man.

I am presently buying many jazz albums I understand were from this man´s collection and I just want to pass on my appreciation for his great taste, and for the opportunity to have a share of his passion for great music. I wish I´d been able to know him in person. Rather than rest in peace, I hope he is resting to the sounds of miles Davis and John Coltrane.

I met Welly in Hospital and over the next four weeks we became friends. I kept in touch with Welly mainly by phone after we got out of Hospital. My wife and I visited him at his home and I was impressed by his music collection. I share his love of Blues and Jazz. He was a fine man and I will miss his sense of humour. Sincere condolences to his family.humour
