Thinking of you and your family, Vicki. I have often found myself composing emails in my head to you when I read cases or just last week when I read a book! Wish I had sent them now. As a grad at Crown Law I was inspired beyond words at the quality of your work, I´m not sure I´ll ever come across anything quite like it. I was often grateful for your wise words and loved to have a good laugh with you. It feels a bit like losing my cool older cousin! X

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Vicki's passing. While we lost touch after law school, I will always remember her as one of the brightest stars of our year. My condolences to Vicki's family.

Vick, you have been in my life for as long as I remember, my earliest childhood memories. You were 100% the most intelligent person I knew & I was so proud to tell people about your amazing achievements.
Taken far too young.
All my love to Ady & Andy,
Emma & family xxxx

It is with great sadness that I hear about Vicki's passing. She was a highly respected and valued student at the Auckland University Law School, including in my criminal procedure class. Indeed, I was proud to write Vicki's reference for the prestigious Frank Knox Scholarship to undertake the Harvard Law School Master of Laws degree in 2007 (a rare and singular achievement for an Auckland Law School graduate). She will be missed by her teachers, Law School classmates, colleagues and friends. My deepest condolences to Vicki's family and loved ones. Scott Optican, Associate Professor, Auckland Law School

Many of Vicki's friends knew her from legal circles, either from law school, or later, as lawyer colleagues who worked together.
My relationship with Vicki wasn't through the law. Vicki was my girlfriend for 3 years during her LLB at the University of Auckland. I myself was studying a BSc and then later an MSc at Auckland during this time. We met through a mutual friend from Rangitoto College, where we had both completed high school, but we didn't know each other until university (I was a year above her at high school). She was my first girlfriend.
Vicki was better than me in all ways. She was smarter. She got a score of over 400 for Form 7 University Bursary compared to my 303. I would tease her that an "A" is an "A". We both studied hard, but Vicki harder. She spoke French. Her breadth and grasp of English was far superior to mine. She would proofread my essays, but not vice versa. She was self-assured, whereas I was still coming into my own. Her wit was sharper and quicker than mine. She was 1.5 years younger than me, but ahead. In all of this, she was generous, kind, loving, never arrogant. I admired Vicki, and I was proud of her.
We had a vibrant social life during our Auckland University years. We spent so much time together, by ourselves out-and-about, at each of our homes, or with groups of friends. We completed the 21st Birthday Party circuit together. I still remember hers in Takapuna.
In 2004 I was finishing my Master's degree and was heading overseas. By that time, Vicki was in the beginning of planning further education post-Auckland. We had grown up during those formidable years together and it was time to let each other move on to the next stage of life. But those years with Vicki and at university were some of the best of my life. She was a wonderful girlfriend. I loved her. I always knew Vicki would have a stellar career and expected her to one day become a judge or Member of Parliament. From what I see from other friends tributes, she was on that path.
Vicki, you will always occupy a special place in my heart. Losing you from the world at 39 is too young. The world needs more bright minds like you. I am just so sad.
Love, Richard.

I am so very sorry to hear this news. Vicki was one of the brightest legal minds I knew - unwaveringly fair, well respected and an incredibly hard worker. I remember her sharp wit and impeccable timing, which got us through many a difficult time at law school. Sending much love to her family at this very difficult time.
