Ulah Abbott Obituary

Ulah Mae Abbott, 83, of Char House, Charleroi, died Dec. 28, 2001. in Mon Valley Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born July 4, 1918, in Eastman, Ga., a daughter of the late John Thorpe and Ollie Stanley Thorpe. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Monessen, where she served on the usher board and was a member of the service club. She was an active member of the Mon Valley Branch of the NAACP and the Senior Action Council (SAC). She is survived by one sister, Anna Bertha Thorpe-White of Belle Vernon; one godson, Maurice Jones of Monongahela; a devoted friend, Lonnie McWilliams of Monessen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Abbott; three brothers, John Henry Thorpe, Willie Stanley, and Samuel Thorpe Sr.; and three sisters, Audrelee Thorpe-Smith, Rubertha Stanley and Ollie Mae Thorpe. Visitation will be conducted in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in Mt. Calvary Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Griffin E. Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The WILLIAM R. TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, Trudy Taylor-Bristol, Director, 645 McMahon Ave., Monessen, is in charge of arrangements.
