I have only just found out about Trevor's passing in October 2020 while catching up with Trevor Gribble for the first time in 35 years (a former student of Trevor's).
I was a pupil of Trevor's for many years and the highlights included winning the top virtuoso class at the NZAA's NZ competitions in 1975 and recording several programmes for radio soon after.
Trevor was a terrific musician, a great teacher and a genuinely nice and caring guy. I did manage to catch up with him in 2002 as he helped me change a few leathers in my accordion to get the reeds sounding perfect again.
My condolences to his wife Angela and family.

I was a pupil of Trevor's in Mangere Bridge, and have many fond memories of him. He was more than just a music teacher, he was a mentor and went out of his way to encourage his pupils. I remember the regular concerts he organised at the Black Bridge retirement hall in Mangere Bridge for pupils where they could play in front of a friendly audience.

Trevor touched and had an impact on so many people; nearly everybody I meet who is involved with the accordion knows of Trevor. I was at a function last night with four other accordion players; three of them knew him well and were very sad to hear of his passing.

Sincere condolences to all the family. A truly wonderful musician.

Condolences to Angela and family on the sad loss of Trevor.

I have many memories of Trevor from the early years of him playing accordion. I quote from a report in accordions.com international Weekly News, November 1996.

"The 1996 Accordion Examination Board of New Zealand Inc. Annual Merit Award in recognition of outstanding services to the accordion movement was presented to Trevor Taylor, who has been a great ambassador for the accordion in the Auckland area for many years, playing as a resident musician at many venues. He was the New Zealand Champion in 1962 and 1963, has recorded on radio, recorded an LP (Accordion Golds) and was the first New Zealand accordionist to play solo with a Symphony Orchestra."

I see very lovely comments here from some of Trevors students who enjoyed prominent success at New Zealand competitions and some of whom, are themselves playing professionally today.

Trevor was a true ambassador of the accordion with his many years of Auckland professional musicianship work. Thank you Trevor for all that you contributed to the history of the accordion in New Zealand.

My sincere condolences to all the family.

Growing up in NZ, although we were active in the accordion movement at different times, I always looked up to Trevor as a great accordionist role model.

Trevor was a great inspiration and happy to have had the chance to spend time with him a couple of years ago on one of my visits back to New Zealand. My sincerest condolences to all the family.

Have not seen, nor heard of, Trevor for about 50 years. As a kid in the mid to late 1950's, staying at my grandparent's home (Mary & Alex Bain) at 194 Station Rd, Penrose (Trevor was next door at 196 with Kit & Percy), we would often be serenaded in the early morning or sometimes at night, by Trevor practicing on his piano accordion at his home. :-) Lost touch with him after leaving school.
(PS. See another name I know in Dianne Corbett, presumably Graham & Barry's sister, who lived up the road)

Trevor had such a huge impact on my life . He started teaching me the accordion at age 15 but he was more than a teacher , he was someone who always cared and took time to listen to all that I was going through while growing up . When I thought the accordion was getting to difficult to learn he would always play for me and get me all inspired again . He had a way of playing music on the accordion that could not be matched , but he was always humble with his success . We have lost a true legend and pioneer of the accordion as well as a dear friend .
I will always cherish the times we had together over that last 18 months .
Be at peace .
